THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the 2011 MOM Campaign. It was a huge success! Between all the zoos and animal centers that took part, we were able to talk to thousands of people about orangutans and explain how critical it is to protect them and their forest home.  {:(|}

“What a fun Mother’s Day we had at the Memphis Zoo!! Our Missing Orangutan Mothers event was well received. We had 2 Touchcarts–Rain Forest and Orang Conservation with MOM featured. One of our Keepers had made a life size freestanding cutout of a male orang with a face cutout for visitors to show their face through for a photo op.Visitors young and old loved it!! We also had a hand held orang puppet to help tell the story of the missing moms.  Eight Docents were involved that day and all had as good a time as our visitors.”

“The Sacramento Zoological Society’s chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers (GreaterSacAAZK) was pleased to participate in the Missing Orangutan Mothers awareness event on Mother’s Day. Members of GreaterSacAAZK held a bake sale in front of the orangutan exhibit at the Sacramento Zoo. Guests were able to learn about the plight of orangutans in the wild and make a contribution to our fundraiser to benefit Orangutan Outreach. Kids activities included a demonstration of the arm-span of an adult orangutan and the hand size where youngsters could measure up. 2 of the zoo’s orangutans created some original paintings (using non-toxic poster paint) and a few lucky visitors were able to purchase them – most guests noted that the orang artists out-skilled the human visitors that day!”

“We had a huge turnout for Mothers Day as always and were able to get the word out to a lot of people.  The word “sticker” seems to stop kids in their tracks and worked great for reeling them in for some jokes and information. Since it was just the first year for it, we learned a lot and hope to have another event next year.  All of the pamphlets etc from the website were great.  Thanks!”
