I have no idea how people can be so inhumane.. killing those beautiful orang utans..why can’t humans be more loving and considerate and avoid being so greedy?? Destroying the habitats of such lovely animals… leaving the baby orang utans to become orphans…oh my..it’s just so depressing…I really appreciate this organisation for going forward to help these poor orang utans..May God Bless you…and to people who are so cruel to those orang utans, you will have to face the music one day..God will never forgive people who do harm to others. I would love to visit Borneo one day and gain a better insight about the orang utans.

I’ve always been fascinated by orangutans and was so pleased when I accidentally discovered Orangutan Planet on TV while I was living in Australia! Once i got back to the UK i ordered the DVD series so I could see the adventures from 103 I had missed! I’ve just discovered this website and have adopted, which is all I can do to help out at the moment. Within the next 2 years I really hope that I can travel over to Borneo and do some volunteering in a rehabilitation centre. Good luck with everything. We need to do all we can to save these intelligent and beautiful creatures!

I hope to see more episodes of “Orangutan Island” on television. I think this program did an excellent job of making a larger segment of the population aware of the endangered status of the precious orangutans!

At worst, I’m one of those disaffected youths that brood on dispair & worry the fate of the world is a hopeless one. Then I saw a brilliant man speak on ted.com, which brought me here. This site & that man bring make the grass seem greener, the air smell sweet, and the sun briighten & sharpen everything in my vision. This gives me a great deal of things to be hopeful for.

I’m 16 and when I was 14 I fell in love with apes. And I plan on going to college for a Zoology major and specializing in apes. I want to help all I can and want to dedicate my life to this. And until I’m old enough to go over and help physically, I will be helping here financially. I love you guys and everything you do. Thank you so much. Godspeed.

I was at the bookstore when I saw the book “Thinkers of the Jungle” and it was on sale! I bought it just because of the pretty picture of the orangutan mother and her baby without giving it much thought and when I opened it and read it entirely, I cried and laughed, even lost my sleep because of te content of it. Then I went on the Internet and researched more, found this website. Now I want to help, I want to do something to be part of the solution. I think Mr. Smits genious and his team are saints who risk their lives every day to save not only orangutans but all the nature and help people of the Indonasia and Borneo. They set example to others how to solve global climate crisis and stand up for the cause that is worth of giving life for. I watched videos and I cried and smiled…
THANK YOU SO MUCH and I wish I could join you all in what you do there! I am planning to help as much as I can here though. You are my heroes!
God Bless you!
Thank you
Anna

Keep on going guys!!
March 21st, 2009 at 9:16 am
Why is the future of Orangutan Island still uncertain! Animal Planet and Discovery Communications must know how much we love the show and want to see a third season! WHY DID YOU STOP THE PROGRAM! I MISS WATCHING IT, AND WOULD LIKE A RECONSIDERATION OF THIS WONDERFUL EXPOSE ON THE DANGERS THAT THE ORANGUTANS FACE!
NOT ONLY IS IT EDUCATIONAL, BUT IT SHOWS A WILDLIFE EMERGENCY! THESE ANIMALS ARE GOING EXTINCT AND PEOPLE NEED TO BE INFORMED!
March 17th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
My dream is to one day work side by side with these amazing Great Apes. Until that time, I am commited to spreading the word about the devastation that is occuring in the rainforests of Malaysia and Indonesia. It has to stop and it terrifies me to think of the grim future of the organutans if governments don’t start caring for the environment and taking action.
It seems like every product I pick up in the stores contains palm oil and it is my personal choice to avoid these products whenever possible.
Please don’t stop your wonderful work!
March 10th, 2009 at 7:10 am
I visited Bukit Lawan on the weekend and it was incredible. I wrote about it more on my blog and took some nice pictures:
http://www.aboutindonesia.com/orangutans-in-bukit-lawang/
The Indonesian government doesn’t seem to be doing much at all to protect the orangutans there and it seems like a terrible loss, for tourism, the country and the environment.

This is the very first time I feel by the methods, the attitude and the goal that I am not lone in this world. Thank you Mr Smith.
March 5th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
I love watching your show! I just wish I could meet the whole gang in person and give them all a big hug! It’s interesting to see how close they are to being human! They love, they laugh, they get happy and sad just like us!. Thanks to all the crew for all your devotion and TLC for these amazing animals!
March 5th, 2009 at 7:52 am
I would just like to echo what Sarah Shannon says. I have never really had the privilage to observe or have any close encounters with these wonderful cousins of ours yet but would love to.
I have made it a ambition of mine to visit your rescue centre if possible one day. In the meantime I will continue to watch Orangutan diary and monitor progress and hopefully donate via website. I have joined the facebook coarse too.
Wonderful work you are doing people, long may it continue. Your an inspiration
March 1st, 2009 at 8:51 pm
Lone,
You are truly my hero! Your show makes me laugh and breaks my heart at the same time. I could watch it 24×7. I will be donating heavily later this year if the economy picks up.
Best Wishes,

I want to adopt Lona LOL. She very real and selfless it seems and I like that the show is about the Orangutans not her Like other shows I have seen. Serously what about toti it’s my girlfriend name just heard it this week but I think it was last weeks episode. How about webcams sometime. I will be adopting this week. Just tell lona we are rooting for her and her orangutans. Will I get a picture of my adopted orangutan I want to show it to people at work. Well keep up the wonderful work. Kathleen

I have just watched Orangutan Diary for the first time and was so so moved by the beautiful Orangutans and by your people who are rescuing, nursing and caring for them. I have had a special place in my heart all my life for Orangutan’s and would LOVE to do what you do. I volunteered at Monkey World in England for a year which allowed me to observe the Orang’s regularly which was a huge privilege and I hope to one day volunteer at an Orangutan rescue centre. I have so much respect for you all to do what you do, keep up the amazing work. Wish there was more people like you in the world and have renewed motivation to inform people about their plight. Great website too! Sarah.
February 9th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
To all of the amazing people who are helping to protect these wonderful creatures, thank you – you are truly doing God’s work. I am ashamed to admit that until a couple years ago, I did not realize the magnitude of the damage caused by the palm oil industry. In fact, it was after watching your show on Animal Planet that I became tuned-in to this cause. Now, I always check foods at the grocery store to make sure they do not contain this ingredient (can’t believe how many products do). Thank you again for educating all of us..you are making a difference in many lives, especially the orangutans!
February 7th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
Fell in love with the Orangutan from the get-go… I want all the people involved in the Outreach to know that you are my HERO’S. Only wished I could be more helpful with this program.. Hope my contribution has helped and have a big soft spot for my adoptee, Grendon..
Luv ya fella.

I have really enjoyed your website and the orangutan island website/ I also cannot wait until the new season of Orangutan Island starts this year! Thank-you for the hard work and dedication of your organization and that of Lona Drescher=Neilson as well. If my circumstances were different, I would be in Borneo full time myself! I think Orangutans are the most wonderful animals that God created!
January 5th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Thank you, Lone!
My sister sent me an article from Denmark about your work what an amazing blessing to have your organization help these awesome creatures who are so much like us – I haven’t seen this series on Animal Planet but would like to, do you know if the episodes are available to buy on dvd?
I will from now on not buy Palm oil or any item that contains it.
Love and blessing to all of you at the cente.
Mange tusinde tak!

I feel blessed that I am able to volunteer at the Honolulu Zoo where we have two beautiful orangutans, Violet and Rusti. My Christmas wish this year is for all Americans to volunteer and put themselves in a similar postion. It is amazing when you actually touch, feed, clean and help care for these animals – other problems seem to disappear when you are with these lovely beings.
December 7th, 2008 at 10:44 am
Thank you so much for what your organization is doing for the orangs! I can’t even begin to imagine the dedication and commitment it must take. Sometimes I start thinking about how I don’t understand humans and why such a horrible animal was created but then I think of people like you and I feel better about humanity again. There’s hope.
December 5th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
My friend is a great fan for the orangutans she will risk her life doing anything for them for her birthday she is asking people to send in a donation at this website and thats all she is amaizing and is very caring

I have been obsessed with Orangutan Island since the first episode. I practically cried when Oy-Oy died,
he was my favorite! Now I’m starting a project at my school to try to raise $1000 to pay for 6 months of an orangutan’s care. i really hope my project works. if you want to help you can go to monkeydude.org and buy some of the merchandise at the bottom of the home page. I love Orangutans and i will do everything I can to help one.

Hi there! We are getting ready to have our Orangutan Event at the Sacramento Zoo on November 15th and 16th. The kids of Marigold Elementary School inspired by Allison Boyer are meeting up with the Sacramento Zoo Roots and Shoots group for a couple of days of fun and festivities. Hopefully we will raise money and awareness about these beautiful creatures. Are you “orang-a-ware?” or an
“Orang-u-Fan? Stay away from products containing palm oil and help us save the great red ape!

The best show on TV. I love watching it with my children and we are going to adopt a orangutan.

November 12th, 2008 at 4:46 am
Your quest to save these wonderfully individual orangutans from extinction is so important. Your show makes me laugh and cry at the same time. Each orangutan is so unique and my heart goes out to each and every one. It also goes out to you who works so hard to save them, to feed them and help them learn to survive on their own AND to try desparately to raise enough money to keep it all going. If I had a million dollars, I would give it to you right now. I will definitely be adopting an orangutan from you as soon as possible. Thank you for all your hard work.
November 11th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
The show has truely touched my heart…. You can not help but fall in love with each and every one of the orangutans!! THANKS for all that you all have done and I hope improvments continue to be made! .. Donald’s death was so shocking and heartbreaking.. he is in a better place with his mom! .. I’m excited that I got to adopt my very 1st orangutan Dodo today..
November 11th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
This is by far my favorite show. I admire everyone who has dedicated their lives for them. We want more Orangatan Island…..
November 11th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
So shocked and sad to find Donald died…. How did it happen? Could you let us know? Thank you.
November 10th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
Your show touches my heart. You are are incredible people and i thank you for the work you do!!
November 10th, 2008 at 4:09 am
Thank you for your dedication and love of the orangutans!
November 9th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
The show was wonderful tonight! Ruby was a big hit for my daughter! Keep checking labels and don’t eat:
Twix, Kit Kat, Whoppers, Cheez its, Smucker’s Fudge Topping, Smart Balance Butter, Oreos, Most Nabisco crackers/cookies, Alphabet Cereal, Rice Krispy Bars, Starburst candy, SAY NO TO PALM OIL:)
November 9th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
I can’t tell you how much I love the show. It’s impossible to not fall in love with these cousins of ours. They giggle! I was not aware that any animals other than us did so. What you are doing is great. I really wish Nyaru Menteng was around the corner so I could come visit.
Thank you for doing such a great thing!

Hi,
Wanted you to know I was moved when I read the article in the Readers Digest. I will tell all my friends about the article and the work that you do, you are a wonderful person to help the orangutans and change the way that natives treat these wonderful animals.
I will tell my friends and associates to please make a donation no matter how small. Thank you for the hard work that you do and I wish you the best of luck.
Best of luck’
Richard and Sonja St.Cyr
PS, We will also be making a donation
November 6th, 2008 at 1:30 am
Thanks Jennifer. It’s wonderful to hear you will be teaching your students about orangutans! Involving the next generation is so important….
I’ll email you so we can work things out…. Rich
November 5th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
hey everyone!
don’t forget next week is orangutan awareness week- i say we have a DON’T BUY PRODUCTS WITH PALM OIL DAY – anyone suggest a date and pass the word around – we need to make this movement as big as the dolphin/tuna movement- if we can get consumers to stop using products with palm oil, we can fight the core of the problem!
November 4th, 2008 at 12:09 am
Hello, My name is Jennifer. I am a school teacher and I am asking for an orangutan adoption for christmas. I plan on involving my students with this. I always try to teach my students the importance of helping the environment. However after reading the article in Readers Digest and looking at this website, I am really going to emphasize orangutans and the rain forest. People, especially YOUNG people need to know what species are endangered and what they can do to help.
Thanks,
Jennifer

Hi,
I recently noticed that Brianna, from our partner group, Gigantic Orange primate Gang, had left a comment on the guestbook, and I thought I’d say hi too. My name is Haley, I’m the president of the organization Kids Save Apes. Kids Save Apes is an organization dedicated to educating people about apes, and helping to save them from extinction. Kids can join from where ever they live and help save apes in their community, but if you live nearby to a “meeting spot”, you can work with other members and I on projects, etc.
I am so inspired by Red Apes.org, which is becoming my favorite Orangutan organization. I think the M.O.M campaign and all of the other campaigns are so cool and I would love to learn more about the organization.
Anyways, if you are interested in joining, or working with all of us here at KSA, we would love to talk to you.
Peace, Haley

I am deciated to helping out all I can.
I am spreading the word about Orangutan Outreach.
I have email companies that are using Palm Oil.
I am printing out flyers about Palm Oil use and leaving them on the grocery stores bulletin board, getting business cards made up and leaving them in the gym and tanning salons.
Any where and every where I can help spread the word.
Word of mouth is a very powerful thing, if you tell one friend and they tell another friend about Orangutan Outreach maybe we can really make an impact and help these wonderful animals.
June 14th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Just to say how glad I am to see so many people are trying to help these wonderful creatures. I’m only 16 but I am determined to raise as much money as possible and to visit Borneo to see them in their natural habitat. We cannot let these gentle, wonderous creatures disappear!!!!!

That anyone could hurt or mistreat these majestic, gentle creatures in any way is sickening. All the best to Lone and all the other people who rescue and care for orangutans, it gives one hope they have a chance for survival.

I just wanted to let all you know that this cause has reached our Middle School here in Little Elm, Texas. It was the most exciting thing to see the students concerned about the Orangutans after hearing a presentation in their 5th grade Science class. Way to go Courtney and Riki!! I was referred to this website by them. It’s great!! Now the kids are organizing a campaign drive.

http://www.tastykake.com/
Hi Everyone:
I have been looking for products that have Palm Oil in them and TastyKake is one of them. I wrote to them and asked them to stop. They did not respond to the issue of Palm Oil but they did send me a refund check for $4.00. The funny thing is that I did not buy the product because of the Palm Oil. So I cashed the check and donated it to redapes.org! I encourage everyone to do the same!

My girlfriend Becky and I have been reading about orangautangs through your site and a couple previous to enlighten our opinions in lew of the current girlscouts boycotting girlscout cookies news headline on our msnbs homepage. After reviewing as many facts and ideas as possible during the last hour we have come to a conclusion which we wish to share with both the concerned parties.
We wish to state officially and for the record and under no serriptious means that …
(firstly) We wish to state officially and for the record and under no serriptious means that we like orangutans very much.
(secondly)We also like the taste of things which use palm oil very much.
(and Thirdly)Girl scout cookies are o.k. in our book .Though not our personel favorite we feel that anyone who wishes to purchase girlscout should have priveladge to do so and so would like both the orangutuns and palm oil ferns to consider enacting bilaterally an immediate mutual tolerance policy followed by U.N. moderated elections throughout the affected are’s aimed at securing regional stability.
Thank you for your time and for considering our two cents….

March 2nd, 2008 at 9:38 pm
I became entranced by orangutans after watching them here at the LA Zoo. One was poking a stick in between the glass wall and an enclosure wall, and the expressions on her face were priceless. I wish I could watch them all day! We have adopted Lomon and Kesi, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to do something for these beautiful animals. Thank you to everyone who works at Nyaru Menteng, and to the others of you here who have taken the time to help the voiceless.
February 29th, 2008 at 10:43 pm

I have seen every episode of Orangutan Island, it is my favorite show! I am in love with all the orangutans and I can’t wait for season 2!! This tv show has really raised awareness of the horrific things that are happening to these beautiful creatures. Kudos to Lone and her team at Nyaru Menteng, you’re the greatest!!!
February 27th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Oh my gosh, I ha dno idea there was a tv show about this beautiful creatures. Ever since I was little I have always loved Orangautans. I will definetly start watching the show! I just finished reading about this program in the Science Illustrated and I found this site and am about to adopt one of the orangutans. I figure this is the closest I will ever get to having one! Thank You!
February 25th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
I just love to watch this show. I have fallen in love with Cha Cha! I would give anything to be able to go there and help work with these fantastic animals.
February 20th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
Thank you so very much for the updates on Kesi and Lomon! Its amazing how much they appear to have grown since my adoption. I am so very proud to have been part of this wonderful program. I wish I could be there right in the thick of things with you all and these amazing animals. Thanks for taking such good care of them and letting us be such a small part in rescuing them. Much love to the staff and God Bless!
February 20th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
I have been watching Orangutan Island from the beginning and have absolutely fell in love with this species. I have adopted Kesi and hope to help more. I can’t wait for next season to begin. All my prayers go out to Lone and staff for taking such good care and loving them.
February 20th, 2008 at 5:38 am
I can not tell you how heart warming it is to watch your show. It is just wonderful. I’ve just adopted one of the babies and am so excited to hear about her progress. I’m so looking forward to the next season. Bless ALL of you for the outstanding gift that you give to these beautiful animals, and to those of us who watch and love them, too.
February 20th, 2008 at 2:45 am
Orangutan Island is one of my favorite shows–I just love Cha Cha and adopted Kesi online! I have learned so much from this program and can’t wait for the second season!
February 19th, 2008 at 3:20 am
I’VE LEARNED SO MUCH FROM YOUR SHOW. THESE LITTLE HARMLESS CREATURES HAVE BECOME A PART OF OUR FAMILY. WE JUST ADOPTED KESI. SHE IS ONE OF OUR BABIES NOW. CAN’T WAIT FOR THE NEW SEASON. WE MISS OYOY, BUT AT LEAST HE WAS FREE, AND SURROUNDED BY LOVE. THANK YOU LONE.
February 18th, 2008 at 11:11 am
I deeply compliment the work of Lone and all of the other faithfull workers who are protecting this amazing species!! Within the short span of this show, I have learned so much about the orangutan and now view them as my closest relatives
These wonderful, intelligent animals deserve a chance at survival and I am so proud of the effort being given by the viewers! Together we can help save the lives of these beuatiful creatures and provide hope to other endangered species. Keep up the work everybody (and I can hardly wait for the show to pickup again)!!
February 17th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
I have gotton alot of enjoyment learning about orangutans, and learning about the problems they face. Hopefully with the help and evergrowing popularity of the show these wonderful creatures will again one day flourish. I pray that our children and thier children will not have to see these beautiful animals only in a zoo, but in thier natural habitats living as they were intended. I would like to thank all the people who have helped to make this program and all those like it a success.
February 17th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
I just adopted Fio and I absolutely love her!! Thank you Orangutan Island for bringing to light the plight of these amazing creatures!
February 17th, 2008 at 1:33 am
I have not missed a single episode of this delightful show, and my heart goes out to these marvelous animals. I adopted a Bengal cat last year, decendent of the Asian Leopard, and he is the light of our lives. But, there is room in our hearts to adopt one of these orangutans, since we can’t really have one. Lone and her collegues are wonderful, dedicated people, who truly love their work. So, in memory of our son, who passed away four years ago, I am adopting one of your babies and hope that it helps their future. Keep up the good work.
February 16th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
I love watching orangutan island and I hope that there are more to come from them.I love wacthing how ChinChin and Donald interact with each other. The growing and learning process that all the orangutan have taught me that any thing is possible.
February 16th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
My son Alex and my niece Leslie and I love this show!!! It makes us laugh and cry. As part of Alex’s birthday present, I am adopting him an orangutan. I can think of no better gift for him, so much better than a toy that he will soon forget about. This is a present he will never forget. Keep up all the good work Lone and staff. You bring such wonderful emotion to TV that is so missing today.
February 16th, 2008 at 11:53 am
My husband and I also just finished watching the season finale of Orangutan Island. We learn so much from the show about the plight of orangutans and more importantly their absolutely human-like behaviors and characteristics. They are truly wonderful creatures that deserve to be saved and cherished. We admire and are inspired by the work of Lone and the Teknisi, and everyone at Nyaru Menteng and BOS – -this is such a remarkable project!! Thank you for reaching out to these orphans and for making sure that they CAN live out the dream of being an orangutan in their natural habitat! We are so excited to see the next season!!
February 16th, 2008 at 2:24 am
I love the show! I certainly hope there is more to come….I love all apes and I hope to someday visit Borneo! I have been saving for years to go on a big trip to see Apes in Africa as well. My whole family watches the show every Friday night….I have teenagers and for them to stay home to watch Orangutan Island you know you are doing something right on tv! We just adopted Fio and look forward to hearing more about her! Thanks for all that you do!
February 16th, 2008 at 12:24 am
I just wanted to thank Lone and the rest of her staff for a job well done. I just finished watching the season finale of Orangutan Island it was great. I was so happy to see that everything went back to normal. I cannot wait to see what next season brings and I was also happy to see that many people have been inspired to help these amazing creatures. I have always been inspired by people like you and hope to one day help out our furry friends and make a difference in this world. I have also been inspired to adopt my very own orangutan and will be looking forward to getting frequent updates on my special friend.
February 16th, 2008 at 12:24 am
When the world is filled with so much pain and suffering, your work and show offer hope to all of us who treasure life. Lone- you are a blessing, not only to these precious animals, but to all of us who derive great joy from believing that each of us CAN make a difference. Thank you for a wonderful show, for your great work, and for teaching me so much .
February 15th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
I love Orangutan Island. I am 7 years old and just adopted my first orangutan!! I am glad that I can help her.
February 15th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Lone you’re such a hero. I want to grow up and be just like you. Thank You for such great t.v.
February 12th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
I am 8 years old and I love Orangutan Island – it warms my heart and makes me giggle.
February 11th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
I absolutely love the show. I have to watch it everyday and I fell in love with these orangutans! I’m really glad Lone and all the people are helping them to survive. Such amazing people!
February 10th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
Your show is amazing. You are doing such wonderful work! My husband says he loves watching the show with me because I get so in to it and talk to the orangatans and can recognize most of them right away. Lone is great with these amazing creatures. I wish there were more people like her and the others working at the center in the world. Keep up the great work!
February 8th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Thank you so much for your wonderful show! I’m so glad to see someone doing all they can to help these beautiful creatures. I hope to donate soon, and would love to adopt one of the many needy Orangutans.
P.S. I was so sorry to see Oyoy gone. And I jumped like crazy when Cha Cha was playing with that snake! I’ve been told to stop talking to the TV, because they can’t hear me! lol
February 8th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Being an Indonesian living here in the US, it breaks my heart to see how orangutans are mistreated, harmed and even killed by MY OWN PEOPLE. At the same time it’s also frustrating because there’s not much I can do from here.
I wish the Indonesian government would’ve been more involved in preventing the killing of the orangutans and their habitat (rainforests), and implemented stricter laws against illegal loggings and destructive palm oil plantations.
Thanks to people like Lone and her crew, who give us hopes that these lovely great apes will still be around for generations to come. I can only afford to adopt one orangutan for now (got three kids of my own), but will surely try to do more.
I’m also a member of Orang Utan Republik Education Initiative (www.orangutanrepublik.org).
February 4th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
We must all stop buying products with palm oil immediately. I have written to Whole Foods Market, Kroger, Safeway, and food companies to ban the purchase of foods containing palm oil. The orangutans lives must be protected and cherished. If we all stop supporting the use of palm oil and donate a few dollars a month to save the orangutans, these precious orangutans could plausibly have a sustainable, just existance and future. Thank you Lone for your love, hard work, and efforts to protect the orangutans. I would like to help you with legal issues as I have my Juris Doctor degree. I would volunteer my services for no cost.
January 29th, 2008 at 6:53 am
Love the TV show. Keep up this great work. We owe these guys so much. Looking forward to adoption of a baby Orangutan. We hope soon to visit the island. Col.Jesse & Andrea Knoxville TN. USA

January 27th, 2008 at 12:16 am

I just watched your show for the first time…its absolutely wonderful! I will definitely keep tuning in. I just adopted 2 dozen chimpanzees from two different sanctuaries recently, but I am now anxious to add a few orangs to the gang whose photos I proudly hang on my wall. Thank you for introducing me to these delightful creatures…my new very best friends. I wish you great success with your show…Bravo!!!
January 19th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
I’m so happy that Orangutans Island is airing. What a great way to education and entertain at the same time. I do hope that the viewers will make an efford to donate even a dollar, because every penny counts.

I had a cold and I watched the orangies when they got sick. Aww. I sat on the couch with my kleenex and thought, “Oh, I hope they all get better.”
The poor things looked so miserable in those cages at the vets.
I wanted to reach through the screen and give them all a hug.
But I had a cold.
Those orangutans deserve love just like people do!
January 12th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Orangutan Island is my favorite show. If I’m not home we record it. I think Lone Nielson is a remarkable person and her work on the project is beyond words. If people would have half the heart she has ALL the animals would have a better life. I donate to WWF, Defenders of Wildlife and soon I will be adopting an orangutan. It would be great to see these wonderful creatures and visit the rescue center in person. Bless all of you.
January 11th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
I just adopted Kesi and am so thrilled about it!! Animals, nature and science have always always fascinated me; I also support a local animal shelter, so this was right up by alley!
January 9th, 2008 at 12:39 am
I grew up watching Marlin Perkins and Jacques-Yves Cousteau and am a long time viewer of wildlife TV. “Orangutan Island” is an exceptional show by any standard. Kudos to “Animal Planet” and the work of Lone Nielsen in raising awareness for these amazing, endearing and tragically endangered primates.
January 8th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
Ever since I first saw Disney’s Jungle Book and went to the Como Zoo as a small boy, I have loved these peaceful, beautiful, ginger-red apes. It is heartbreaking to think that in my two dozen years, as much as 80% of their habitat has been destroyed.
I totally love watching these wonderful animals on my TV screen every Friday, and am in awe, to say nothing of hugely inspired by, the work that BOS is doing to help these innocent orphans and restore them to their jungle birthright. Saturnus, Cha Cha, Chen Chen and Daisy have especially stolen my heart.
To Lone, Michelle, Willie, Alain, the Teknesi, the caretakers, and everybody else at Nyaru Menteng and BOS, I love and support you all. Keep at the fight, and know that this Minnesotan at least, will be with you every single step of the way.
P.S. After sitting on the fence for a period, I just made a donation and sent a letter to a candy company that uses “the oil” in its products.
January 6th, 2008 at 4:26 pm

December 18th, 2007 at 5:06 pm
I absolutely LOVE Orangutan Island. Lone is most certainly a godsend for taking on the magnanamous task of rescuing the red apes. I would love to help Lone on the Island but since I live in the Midwest, I will do what I can from here. I plan to adopt Grendon and to also begin looking for products that contain palm oil that the industry can be eliminated or at least greatly diminished. Lone and the Teknesi’s should be commended for their ongoing effort to care and rehabiltate these gentle giants.
December 15th, 2007 at 12:27 pm

November 27th, 2007 at 11:56 am
Very interesting and informative site. Its amazing what Lone does to help these creatures and she and others like her need all the support that they can get. Its such an eye opener to see how much palm oil is used in our everyday products – a scandal, especially when they don’t clearly write on the label Palm oil but “vegetable oil”! Many supermarkets in UK are still using far too many products of these and this should be banned,. I admire Lone, Willi Smits and all at BOS who do such a great job in helping these beauties! We should all wake up and do our bit in supporting them!
November 26th, 2007 at 7:06 pm
Hi Lone i love what you do and i wanna do the same thing that you do when i get older and i love the show. the orangutans are such beatiful animal and i think that more people should help save them and i might adopt an orangutan =)
November 26th, 2007 at 12:55 pm
The orangutans are so much better than humans… and deserve to be protected. Peaceful, loving and beautiful are the orangutans, and they do not destroy the environment or start wars. One day I hope to be able to do more for them, in the meantime, my gracious thanks to those at Orangutan Island for your compassion, and caring for our extraordinary cousins!
November 24th, 2007 at 5:17 am
I fell in love with these beautiful beings. They express so many characteristics of us humans…the only species in this planet that can save them. Growing up loving animals….nature overall, watching this show has reminded me that I have to do my part. I loved watching your show on Animal Planet. I am a horticulturist at the National Zoo in Washington DC, that is where I first encountered Orang utans (I work on the area that includes the famous “O-line”). I think you all do a wonderful and necessary job. Thank you very much.

Wow! I’ve been obsessed with watching these episodes. I love orangutans. Like Penny said, i too just want to hold all of them and give them all my love. I always end up crying throughout the whole episode. I too adopted an orangutan. My heart just goes out to all of these wonderful animals. Lone, you are an amazing woman and you have inspired me dearly. What you are doing is awesome!

What an awesome show!! I ran to the website and adoted 2 “kids”!! Lone, you and your incredible staff have truly made a difference in all of our lives. My dream is to one day visit Borneo and see these amazing creatures in the wild. I challenge everyone visiting this site to please do your part and say NO to all palm oil products!!! Bless all of you and bless the “kids” on orangatan Island.

I loved the show! I love these awesome creatures, but most of all I “LOVE” Lone! What an awsome lady she is. I too was also very annoyed that the show was only a half hour! I can’t wait to show it to my class. I am special education teacher and my sweet kids have become so captivated with their “red headed” friends that they what to adopt as a class. I have seen video footage of the facility for the orphans, and have seen the dedication of those who work there. What a wonderful place for a “little” orangutan to learn how to be a “Big” orangutan. As you can see I am “hooked”! I hope I can do more to help??? Lone is this the only e-mail address that you could be reached? I would love to write along with my class. I would also like to help those who help you everyday. The ladies seem so gentle, and so real. They seem to be so dedicated? Congratulations on one of the many outstanding efforts to save the orangutans.

I saw the first episode of Orangutan Island on Animal Planet last night, and was thoroughly annoyed it was only half an hour! But it was lovely to watch, though, and to see all of the individual personalities in each of them. I hope so much that having a fun, educational show like this will encourage more people to help save the orangutans.
Keep up the great work.

Ms. Nielsen, Thank you for taking care of our animal friends, the orangutans. I enjoyed learning of their individual personalities from the show and of your important work for them. Bless you.

Great new website, I am proud that so many people want to help us. Was just thinking that if only 20% of the 90 million viewers Animal Planet has see the “orangutan Island” and fall in love with these amazing creatures, then each donates a dollar…. we would not have to struggle every year to keep the centre open and give these orangutans a chance to go back into the wild where they belong.

I was fortunate to go to Borneo in 1998 with a group from Charlotte, NC.
Lone was my team leader. I’m amazed at the progress she’s made in 9 years. Good for her!

What a remarkable site! Everyone should see this site and help the orangutans. Without all of us, they have little chance of survival.
