My daughter, Hannah (4 years old), is a huge fan of Orangatan Island. She is just devistated by what is happening to them. She is saving up her money so that she may donate it to their cause. She adores Lone and her staff and says that one day she wants to go to Borneo to help them. She draws pictures for Lone all the time! Keep up the great work and thank you for inspiring my daughter!

I am so glad that I found your informative site due to a comment on my blog from your director, regarding a posting that I had put out about the dire situation of the Orangutans! Before today, I did not know how serious the situation is. I will seek ways to HELP!

im so glad to see a website that is helping orangutans.
i watched a program on t.v the other day called “Saving Orangutans” and it was sad sad i was crying. coming from me a 13 year old girl i am proud to see people are aware of the problem and are doing somthing about it.
im going out ti get a credit card and i will be sponcering 2 orangutans for a year. i hope the situation is fixed for the years to come.

I am deciated to helping out all I can.
I am spreading the word about Orangutan Outreach.
I have email companies that are using Palm Oil.
I am printing out flyers about Palm Oil use and leaving them on the grocery stores bulletin board, getting business cards made up and leaving them in the gym and tanning salons.
Any where and every where I can help spread the word.
Word of mouth is a very powerful thing, if you tell one friend and they tell another friend about Orangutan Outreach maybe we can really make an impact and help these wonderful animals.

Just to say how glad I am to see so many people are trying to help these wonderful creatures. I’m only 16 but I am determined to raise as much money as possible and to visit Borneo to see them in their natural habitat. We cannot let these gentle, wonderous creatures disappear!!!!!

I just wanted to let all you know that this cause has reached our Middle School here in Little Elm, Texas. It was the most exciting thing to see the students concerned about the Orangutans after hearing a presentation in their 5th grade Science class. Way to go Courtney and Riki!! I was referred to this website by them. It’s great!! Now the kids are organizing a campaign drive.

Hi Everyone:
I have been looking for products that have Palm Oil in them and TastyKake is one of them. I wrote to them and asked them to stop. They did not respond to the issue of Palm Oil but they did send me a refund check for $4.00. The funny thing is that I did not buy the product because of the Palm Oil. So I cashed the check and donated it to redapes.org! I encourage everyone to do the same!

My girlfriend Becky and I have been reading about orangautangs through your site and a couple previous to enlighten our opinions in lew of the current girlscouts boycotting girlscout cookies news headline on our msnbs homepage.After reviewing as many facts and ideas as possible during the last hour we have come to a conclusion which we wish to share with both the concerned parties.
We wish to state officially and for the record and under no serriptious means that …

(secondly)We also like the taste of things which use palm oil very much.
(and Thirdly)Girl scout cookies are o.k. in our book .Though not our personel favorite we feel that anyone who wishes to purchase girlscout should have priveladge to do so and so would like both the orangutuns and palm oil ferns to consider enacting bilaterally an immediate mutual tolerance policy followed by U.N. moderated elections throughout the affected are’s aimed at securing regional stability.

Your contributions and efforts in savings Orang Utan is highly respected and appreciated. Orang Utan is a species that need protection especially the mass plantation of Oil Palm is effecting their natural habitat.

I pray everyday that this world would be peaceful for us and wildlife..Thanks for the staff that rescue, teach and feed them..I adopted all for of these Oran’s! I am happy I came across AP and watched OI..I never thought I could really love these Oran’s.

I became entranced by orangutans after watching them here at the LA Zoo. One was poking a stick in between the glass wall and an enclosure wall, and the expressions on her face were priceless. I wish I could watch them all day! We have adopted Lomon and Kesi, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to do something for these beautiful animals. Thank you to everyone who works at Nyaru Menteng, and to the others of you here who have taken the time to help the voiceless.

I absolutely love this website - it is phenomenal! I just adopted Lomon - to know that for a mere $10 a month I can make a difference in an orangutan’s life has really uplifted my spirits!! I hope to one day be able to adopt all four orphans.
I have seen every episode of Orangutan Island, it is my favorite show! I am in love with all the orangutans and I can’t wait for season 2!! This tv show has really raised awareness of the horrific things that are happening to these beautiful creatures. Kudos to Lone and her team at Nyaru Menteng, you’re the greatest!!!

Oh my gosh, I ha dno idea there was a tv show about this beautiful creatures. Ever since I was little I have always loved Orangautans. I will definetly start watching the show! I just finished reading about this program in the Science Illustrated and I found this site and am about to adopt one of the orangutans. I figure this is the closest I will ever get to having one! I deeply compliment the work of Lone and all of the other faithfull workers who are protecting this amazing species!! Within the short span of this show, I have learned so much about the orangutan and now view them as my closest relatives

I have gotton alot of enjoyment learning about orangutans, and learning about the problems they face. Hopefully with the help and evergrowing popularity of the show these wonderful creatures will again one day flourish. I pray that our children and thier children will not have to see these beautiful animals only in a zoo, but in thier natural habitats living as they were intended. I have not missed a single episode of this delightful show, and my heart goes out to these marvelous animals. I adopted a Bengal cat last year, decendent of the Asian Leopard, and he is the light of our lives. But, there is room in our hearts to adopt one of these orangutans, since we can’t really have one. Lone and her collegues are wonderful, dedicated people, who truly love their work. So, in memory of our son, who passed away four years ago, I am adopting one of your babies and hope that it helps their future. Keep up the good work.

My son Alex and my niece Leslie and I love this show!!! It makes us laugh and cry. As part of Alex’s birthday present, I am adopting him an orangutan. My husband and I also just finished watching the season finale of Orangutan Island. We learn so much from the show about the plight of orangutans and more importantly their absolutely human-like behaviors and characteristics. They are truly wonderful creatures that deserve to be saved and cherished. We admire and are inspired by the work of Lone and the Teknisi, and everyone at Nyaru Menteng and BOS - -this is such a remarkable project!! Thank you for reaching out to these orphans and for making sure that they CAN live out the dream of being an orangutan in their natural habitat! We are so excited to see the next season!!

I love the show! I certainly hope there is more to come….I love all apes and I hope to someday visit Borneo! I have been saving for years to go on a big trip to see Apes in Africa as well. My whole family watches the show every Friday night….I have teenagers and for them to stay home to watch Orangutan Island you know you are doing something right on tv! Your show is amazing. You are doing such wonderful work! My husband says he loves watching the show with me because I get so in to it and talk to the orangatans and can recognize most of them right away. Lone is great with these amazing creatures. Being an Indonesian living here in the US, it breaks my heart to see how orangutans are mistreated, harmed and even killed by MY OWN PEOPLE. At the same time it’s also frustrating because there’s not much I can do from here.
I wish the Indonesian government would’ve been more involved in preventing the killing of the orangutans and their habitat (rainforests), and implemented stricter laws against illegal loggings and destructive palm oil plantations.
Thanks to people like Lone and her crew, who give us hopes that these lovely great apes will still be around for generations to come. I can only afford to adopt one orangutan for now (got three kids of my own), but will surely try to do more.
I’m also a member of Orang Utan Republik Education Initiative (www.orangutanrepublik.org).

We must all stop buying products with palm oil immediately. I have written to Whole Foods Market, Kroger, Safeway, and food companies to ban the purchase of foods containing palm oil. The orangutans lives must be protected and cherished. If we all stop supporting the use of palm oil and donate a few dollars a month to save the orangutans, these precious orangutans could plausibly have a sustainable, just existance and future. Thank you Lone for your love, hard work, and efforts to protect the orangutans. I would like to help you with legal issues as I have my Juris Doctor degree. I would volunteer my services for no cost.

I just watched your show for the first time…its absolutely wonderful! I will definitely keep tuning in. I just adopted 2 dozen chimpanzees from two different sanctuaries recently, but I am now anxious to add a few orangs to the gang whose photos I proudly hang on my wall. I had a cold and I watched the orangies when they got sick. Aww. I sat on the couch with my kleenex and thought, “Oh, I hope they all get better.”
The poor things looked so miserable in those cages at the vets.
I wanted to reach through the screen and give them all a hug.
But I had a cold.
Those orangutans deserve love just like people do!

Orangutan Island is my favorite show. If I’m not home we record it. I think Lone Nielson is a remarkable person and her work on the project is beyond words. If people would have half the heart she has ALL the animals would have a better life. I donate to WWF, Defenders of Wildlife and soon I will be adopting an orangutan. It would be great to see these wonderful creatures and visit the rescue center in person. Bless all of you.

I grew up watching Marlin Perkins and Jacques-Yves Cousteau and am a long time viewer of wildlife TV. “Orangutan Island” is an exceptional show by any standard. Kudos to “Animal Planet” and the work of Lone Nielsen in raising awareness for these amazing, endearing and tragically endangered primates.

Ever since I first saw Disney’s Jungle Book and went to the Como Zoo as a small boy, I have loved these peaceful, beautiful, ginger-red apes. It is heartbreaking to think that in my two dozen years, as much as 80% of their habitat has been destroyed.
I totally love watching these wonderful animals on my TV screen every Friday, and am in awe, to say nothing of hugely inspired by, the work that BOS is doing to help these innocent orphans and restore them to their jungle birthright. Saturnus, Cha Cha, Chen Chen and Daisy have especially stolen my heart.
To Lone, Michelle, Willie, Alain, the Teknesi, the caretakers, and everybody else at Nyaru Menteng and BOS, I love and support you all. Keep at the fight, and know that this Minnesotan at least, will be with you every single step of the way.
P.S. After sitting on the fence for a period, I just made a donation and sent a letter to a candy company that uses “the oil” in its products.

We love this show & think it is amazing what you are doing for the orangutans. We are expecting our first baby next week and we decided to adopt Lomon as a gift for our new baby. We can’t wait to watch him grow up learning about Lomon an helping him anyway he can. It will be his first lesson about acts of human kindness and we hope it carries over into the rest of his life.

i love this show and look forward to friday night. it amazes me how much these babies are like real kids and had to laugh when chen chen did his attention routine of falling backwards to get noticed..please keep the shows coming

I absolutely LOVE Orangutan Island. Lone is most certainly a godsend for taking on the magnanamous task of rescuing the red apes. I would love to help Lone on the Island but since I live in the Midwest, I will do what I can from here. I plan to adopt Grendon and to also begin looking for products that contain palm oil that the industry can be eliminated or at least greatly diminished. Lone and the Teknesi’s should be commended for their ongoing effort to care and rehabiltate these gentle giants.

i was shocked and cryed as i watched a female orangutan beaten.. taken her last breath teeth ganshing as death waited for her like a lost long friend and baby orphan orangutans holding bottles with lost in there eyes the forrest burning up in smoke MY GOD!!! i’m shocked ever day about what is going on in the world today and how we treat the creatures we HAVE to share this world with what is the human race thinking.mother earth is going to vomit on us all very soon and when civlization comes to a stop and when we have no food no water no STUPID cars no home and the smell of death will not go away i hope the human race learns a lesson.god bless Lone Droscher-Nielsen you wear a golden crown there is a special place in heaven for people like her….and for the rest of the stupid ego rapest human race there is a place for you to but it’s not heaven.
ps..i do plan on adopting a orangutan as soon as i can!!!

hi my name is kirsten im 12 years old and i already wrote somthing befor but i was just saying i love the show and i adopted 1 baby orangutan and her name is kesi her hand had gotton cut off by plantation workers i was just saying oen day when im older i will help those orangutans and make sure they stay around as long as i do and even longer then i do save the orangutans they deserve a chance

where would the world be without people like you lone? all i can say is you have a wonderful heart and a remarkable way with these adorable orangutans. everytime i think i have a favorite one of the other orangutans does something and i fall in love all over again. they need to be saved and i hope the world watching can give the help you need to keep this going. bless you lone and your staff for the love, care and most of all compassion that these little ones need for their future!

please help these creatures i love orangutans and without us they have little chance of survival i love and adore them so please pitch in money these orangutans are going exstinc because people go out hunting for them so please do one thing for these creatures they deserve a life to just like us i started loveing monkeys sence i was a little girl i am 12 years old and im trying to save the orangutans so please please!!!! try to help im working as hard as i can i love these creatures so much and my saying is if you hate monkeys i will hate you thats what i say but i dont mean it i just cant stand hear and watch these orangutnas disapeeremso help these creatures please it cost over 2,000 $ to adopt and orangutan they need a home just like us so stop and think for once and help these orangutans have a life just like us!!!! thankyou for reading this help them please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very interesting and informative site. Its amazing what Lone does to help these creatures and she and others like her need all the support that they can get. Its such an eye opener to see how much palm oil is used in our everyday products - a scandal, especially when they don’t clearly write on the label Palm oil but “vegetable oil”! Many supermarkets in UK are still using far too many products of these and this should be banned,. I admire Lone, Willi Smits and all at BOS who do such a great job in helping these beauties! We should all wake up and do our bit in supporting them!

The orangutans are so much better than humans… and deserve to be protected. Peaceful, loving and beautiful are the orangutans, and they do not destroy the environment or start wars. One day I hope to be able to do more for them, in the meantime, my gracious thanks to those at Orangutan Island for your compassion, and caring for our extraordinary cousins!

I fell in love with these beautiful beings. They express so many characteristics of us humans…the only species in this planet that can save them. Growing up loving animals….nature overall, watching this show has reminded me that I have to do my part. Keep up the good work to Orangutans Outreach and all those special people that rehabilitate these orphans. God Bless.

I loved watching your show on Animal Planet. I am a horticulturist at the National Zoo in Washington DC, that is where I first encountered Orang utans (I work on the area that includes the famous “O-line”). I think you all do a wonderful and necessary job. Thank you very much.

Wow! I’ve been obsessed with watching these episodes. I love orangutans. Like Penny said, i too just want to hold all of them and give them all my love. I always end up crying throughout the whole episode. I too adopted an orangutan. My heart just goes out to all of these wonderful animals. Lone, you are an amazing woman and you have inspired me dearly. What you are doing is awesome!

animals.Im so in love with Cha cha i know it must have been so hard for you to walk away from her that first day on the Iland but she did great . I love orangutans and I hope soon I will be in a position to adopt because we need to save these awsome animals so our childern and there childern will know these one of akind animals.

What an awesome show!! I ran to the website and adoted 2 “kids”!! Lone, you and your incredible staff have truly made a difference in all of our lives. My dream is to one day visit Borneo and see these amazing creatures in the wild. I challenge everyone visiting this site to please do your part and say NO to all palm oil products!!! I loved the show! I love these awesome creatures, but most of all I “LOVE” Lone! What an awsome lady she is. I too was also very annoyed that the show was only a half hour! I can’t wait to show it to my class. I am special education teacher and my sweet kids have become so captivated with their “red headed” friends that they what to adopt as a class. I have seen video footage of the facility for the orphans, and have seen the dedication of those who work there. What a wonderful place for a “little” orangutan to learn how to be a “Big” orangutan. As you can see I am “hooked”! I hope I can do more to help??? Lone is this the only e-mail address that you could be reached? I would love to write along with my class. I would also like to help those who help you everyday. The ladies seem so gentle, and so real. They seem to be so dedicated? Congratulations on one of the many outstanding efforts to save the orangutans.

I saw the first episode of Orangutan Island on Animal Planet last night, and was thoroughly annoyed it was only half an hour! But it was lovely to watch, though, and to see all of the individual personalities in each of them. I hope so much that having a fun, educational show like this will encourage more people to help save the orangutans.

Great new website, I am proud that so many people want to help us. Was just thinking that if only 20% of the 90 million viewers Animal Planet has see the “orangutan Island” and fall in love with these amazing creatures, then each donates a dollar…. we would not have to struggle every year to keep the centre open and give these orangutans a chance to go back into the wild where they belong.

I was fortunate to go to Borneo in 1998 with a group from Charlotte, NC.
Lone was my team leader. I’m amazed at the progress she’s made in 9 years. Good for her!

I love orangutans and i think this site is so remarkable! With the adopt and orangutan link that can help many of the ornagutans and as soon as i can i will so adopt one because i love orangutans and monkeys and gorillas and really want to help them. orangutans need to be saved there soooo cute and definantly need to be saved!
