Meet Aox, the newest little guy at Nyaru Menteng!

On October 13th, the staff at Nyaru Menteng received news that there was a local resident of Palangkaraya who wished to hand over an Orangutan. The grapevine of trust that Lone and her staff have built up over the years with the local population has proven critical to the efforts of BOS. Over the years, this trust has allowed the team to get countless Orangutans out of desperate conditions and into the Center for medical care, rehabilitation and as much love as they can handle.
So, with all the necessary details and clearance from the Ministry of Forestry, Heldy, Amed & Ali Munthaha headed to the rescue of yet another victim of deforestation and palm oil expansion.
By now, you are all too familiar with the scenario: the team found a young male Orangutan, 2-3 years of age, who fortunately was in relatively good physical condition. His body weight was about 15 kgs, but he had been kept in an iron cage with no freedom of movement to express his natural Orangutan instincts.
His name is Aox.
According to his “owner”, Aox had been in his possession for 6 months. He had received him from a timber company in Barito. His mother had been “killed by a tree” during the logging of the area.
Now Aox is part of an ever growing family of orphans at Nyaru Menteng. At the moment, he is in a quarantine cage until all his medical checks are complete. After that, he will join the other little orangutans in Baby School Group.
Those of you familiar with the BOS rehabilitation system may wonder why Aox is joining the baby group when he is old enough to join Forest School.
Because he has spent so much time isolated in a cage, he will have missed out on some vital schooling from his mother, who would normally teach him about being an Orangutan. Before he is promoted to Forest School, he will have to rebuild his confidence and conciosuly choose to go back into the trees again.
For BOS, the rescue of Aox quite early in his captivity means another life saved and another hope for the survival of the species, made possible by you and your continued support. As the tenth anniversary of the work of BOS Foundation and Lone Droscher Nielsen at Nyaru Menteng approaches, please remember it is YOU, our adoptive parents and donors, who have given Aox a second chance.
Please make a donation or adopt an orangutan today!
Thank you for your support. {:(|}

Will this little guy become one of the adoptables through Orang Outreach?

We probably won’t add Aox to the adoption program, but we will definitely be adding at least one new orangutan in December.
Since Tara has already graduated and Lomon is about to graduate from Forest School, we’re hoping to bring in some new babies!
Stay tuned! Make sure you’re on our newsletter list and in our Facebook Cause to stay in the loop! Thanks, OO {:(|}
