Lovett was also a director of Freeport Sulphur which had been trying to establish its claim to West Papua’s gold & copper since August 1959. The sale of West Papua to Indonesia via the United Nations on behalf of the United States in the shameful 1962 New York Agreement was illegal, was in violation of the United Nations charter and resolutions 1541 and 1514.
