Orangutan Champion Willie Smits speaks at TED Conference

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.

The annual conference now brings together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes).

Al Gore was there. Bill Gates was there. The Google guys were there! Harriett from Snoety was there! And so was Willie. He told the remarkable story of Samboja Lestari– the greatest reforestation project on earth! Remember the simple equation:
Save the forest! Save the planet! Reach out and save the orangutans!

Buried in a lineup of amazing people, Willie’s talk rose to the top as the single most amazing. Extraordinarily inspiring systems thinking in action. TED’s audience isn’t easily wowed. Willie blew us away.
