HISTORY
Bonita’s mother fell to her death after she was shot by poachers. But Bonita clung to her chest and miraculously survived the fall. Bonita was going to be sold as a pet but the team from the Nyaru Menteng Rescue and Rehabilitation Center intervened with the help of police and took her to join other orphaned baby orangutans in baby school 103. Bonita responded well to the nurturing she received from human caregivers but her confidence and independence were easily knocked as a result of bullying by the Bandit Boys so she tends to set herself apart from most of her classmates.

LIFE ON ORANGUTAN ISLAND
Bonita continues to keep her distance from the majority of her peers on Orangutan Island, she is independent and confident enough to fend for herself and visit the platform for food drops, but when feeding time at the platform turns to a bullying session by the Bandit Boys, Bonita is crushed and runs to the trees crying. Eventually Bonita reaches out to Papau, an older female for support and gets back on the right track… but when sickness strikes the island Bonita is in the first boat back to Nyaru Menteng for treatment.
