BOS Orangutan RescueHelp the Orangutans

Since 2003 BOS has been working on relocating wild orangutans to safer forest areas. The rescue operations carried out by BOS in Nyaru Menteng grown and is now the largest rehabilitation program for wild orangutans in South East Asia. During the last years 200 wild orangutans have been saved from the devastation caused by palm oil plantation in the tropical rainforest.

Orangutans can be found in the areas where the plantations are being established which means slimmer and slimmer chances for the orangutans to survive. BOS tracks the wild animals, anesthetizes them and brings them to the rehabilitations center in Nyaru Menteng. In the center they are examined for diseases and after a few days of quarantine they are moved to safer areas where they can continue their life without bigger dangers.

About 150 Ou have been replaced to a new home through this process. The rest are still in quarantine or at the rehabilitation center. Some will never be able to be released as they are blind or suffering from serious diseases (often as a result of human contact) . But despite this they are now safe from an otherwise certain death on a palm oil plantation.
