Gatot is a playful young orangutan growing in confidence as he learns forest skills in rehabilitation.
Meet Gatot – A Real Cutie
Background Story
Gatot was rescued from a village from a man who claimed he had found the baby orangutan alone in the forest whimpering loudly. The man said he felt badly for the baby so he took him home and kept him as a pet. This story is unlikely true since a mother orangutan would never abandon her baby. When he first arrived at the YIARI Orangutan Rescue, Rehabilitation and Conservation Center in August 2016, Gatot was so small he didn’t even have all his teeth. His estimated age was just 4 months old!
Gatot Today
Gatot is being cared for by Yayasan Inisiasi Alam Rehabilitasi Indonesia (YIARI). This sweet boy lives on an island on the grounds of the YIARI Center and he is growing quickly! He shares the rehabilitation island with several other young and active orangutans. Gatot is quite sociable and enjoys playing with his peers. We are happy to see that Gatot spends most of his time in the trees as he should! He is a special little soul and we would love for him to have more adoptive parents.
