Help From Home
Simple, meaningful ways you can support orangutans from wherever you are.
Why Orangutans Need Help
Orangutans are intelligent, charismatic great apes and a vital part of healthy rainforest ecosystems. Yet their numbers continue to decline due to deforestation, human–orangutan conflict, and the illegal pet trade. The crisis facing orangutans in Borneo and Sumatra demands urgent action — and you can help make a difference from home.
Ways You Can Help
Small actions can add up to meaningful change for orangutans and their forests.
Orangutans Are Critically Endangered
There are three species of orangutan — Bornean, Sumatran, and Tapanuli — and all are classified as Critically Endangered by the IUCN. Habitat destruction driven by palm oil plantations, agriculture, and development continues to push orangutans toward extinction.
As forests disappear, orangutans are forced closer to human communities, increasing conflict and putting them at risk of harm. Illegal hunting and the pet trade further devastate wild populations, often leaving infants orphaned after their mothers are killed.
We Must Protect Orangutans
Since 2007, Orangutan Outreach has worked alongside trusted partners in Borneo and Sumatra to rescue orangutans in danger, rehabilitate them with essential survival skills, and return them to the forest whenever possible.
For those who cannot be released, we ensure lifetime sanctuary care. We also support reforestation efforts to restore degraded habitat and secure a future for wild orangutan populations.
