Meet Selfie – A Little Darling
Background Story
On August 12, 2024 the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation received a report about a baby orangutan in the Tumbang Samba Village. The female orangutan, estimated to be 10 months old, was found by a local resident who worked as a hunter. The following day, on August 13, a joint wildlife rescue team from the Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Center and the Central Kalimantan BKSDA (Natural Resources Conservation Agency) traveled to retrieve the baby orangutan. Upon arrival at the rehabilitation center, the baby was given the name Selfie and she immediately underwent a thorough health examination to assess her condition. Selfie was placed under a three-month quarantine period after which she was introduced to the nursery group, where she began interacting with other baby orangutans.
Selfie Today
Selfie has embarked upon her rehabilitation journey at the BOS Foundation’s Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Rehabilitation Center in Central Kalimantan. She has started Forest School where she has made several friends. Selfie shows a strong sense of adventure as she actively explores and eagerly climbs trees. This little girl started out shy and she now demonstrates more confidence and strength. Selfie is showing steady progress as she forms her own identity. Her caregivers are hopeful that Selfie will continue to thrive and, one day, be ready to return to her natural home in the wild.
By symbolically adopting Selfie, you are supporting her daily care, forest school training, and rehabilitation as she develops the skills needed for life in the wild.
