GIVE A GIFT TO HELP ORANGUTANS FOR GIVING SEASON!
It’s that time of year when our thoughts turn to giving gifts and making a difference for the people, animals, and causes that we love. Orangutan Outreach can help you with that! Please read about the needs of our partners in Indonesia, and choose where to allocate your donation.

Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF)
Nyaru Menteng Rehabilitation Center
The BOS Foundation Nyaru Menteng Rehabilitation Center has been relocated to a new site. With the move to the new area, the center now has a more conducive environment to support the development of orangutans. A more natural setting with minimal human distractions is expected to enhance the effectiveness of rehabilitation, allowing orangutans to focus on learning survival skills. Moving forward, it is hoped that this new rehabilitation center will serve as a place where orangutans can truly learn to become independent individuals, ready to return to their natural habitat. A gift to BOS Foundation at this time will support the completion of all the Nyaru Menteng center facilities including a new visitor center and the island homes (Cheekpadder Sanctuary) being built for unreleasable orangutans.

Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Program (SOCP)
Landslide Relief – Rebuild the Orangutan Care Center
On November 27, 2024 several major landslides struck the SOCP Orangutan Quarantine and Rehabilitation Center in North Sumatra. The landslides caused extensive damage to key infrastructure, including the main veterinary clinic and multiple orangutan enclosures. The generous donations already received allowed SOCP to rebuild most of the center’s facilities. A gift to SOCP at this time will help repair the Infant Enclosures and complete reforestation in the Forest School area.

Orangutan Haven
Sanctuary Care for Unreleasable Orangutans
The Orangutan Haven is the forever home for 6 rescued Sumatran orangutans who require long-term care as they can never be released into the wild due to ill health, permanent injury, or physical disabilities. The sanctuary provides each individual with an enriching environment and an excellent quality of life in a spacious and naturalistic setting. The 4 large adult males and 2 females live on individual man-made islands. The islands are covered in grass, are heavily vegetated, and are equipped with abundant climbing structures and comfortable places to rest. Your gift to the Haven will help provide medicine, health care, food and enrichment to the orangutans for the rest of their long lives. Krismon, pictured at left, has been loving life on his island. He even now has a girlfriend! Learn more about Krismon and adopt him here.

International Animal Rescue Indonesia (YIARI)
Gigantic Forested Enclosure
YIARI is on a mission to rescue, rehabilitate and rewild some of the world’s last remaining orangutans. These vulnerable apes are given a second chance as YIARI nurtures them back to health, teaches them survival skills in a purpose built rehabilitation center, and releases them into protected rainforest habitats where they can thrive. However, not all orangutans are fit to return to the wild and YIARI has committed to providing them with lifetime care. A two-hectare semi-wild forest enclosure has been built for the unreleasable orangutans. The orangutans are provided with special training to learn to move in and out of this new habitat. To date, two orangutans have explored this wonderful new area. A gift to YIARI will help provide continued training for the orangutans and capacity building for the caregivers so that more unreleasable orangutans can also experience the huge enclosure and have the chance to climb, play, and enjoy the forest.

Conservation Action Network (CAN)
Emergency Orangutan Rescues
The CAN orangutan rescue teams carry out operations in the East Kutai Regency in East Kalimantan (Borneo). The work is specifically along conflict-prone plantations and mining borders, which are landscapes that are increasingly fragmented, threatening isolated orangutan populations. The rescues aim to ensure orangutan survival through field interventions and habitat-safe translocations. Field activities are focused on where orangutan habitat is rapidly declining due to coal mining and oil palm expansion in which orangutans are increasingly found in fragmented forests and community edges. Most rescues occur in conflict hotspots of forest patches, riverbanks, and roadside strips. A gift to CAN will allow more orangutans who are increasingly pushed into human landscapes to be rescued and safely relocated.

Borneo Nature Foundation (BNF)
Forest Protection
BNF works to protect some of the most important areas of tropical rainforest in the world, and to safeguard the wildlife and environment of Borneo. BNF works in Barito Ulu, the Rungan Landscape, and the Sebangau Landscape. The peat swamps of Sebangau National Park are home to the world’s largest protected orangutan population. Your gift to BNF will support their work in this important area including the creation of community tree nurseries and planting trees to expand orangutan habitat, prevent soil erosion and reduce the risk of fire.

Additional Activities
Help where it is Needed
Orangutan Outreach supports several projects and partnerships throughout Indonesia. We provide funding to our partners on a quarterly basis, which comes from orangutan adoptions, earmarked donations and emergency appeals. However, we cannot always predict what additional funding requests we will receive. We keep a separate fund available for these requests. Your gift to Orangutan Outreach may help to provide supplies for orangutan post-release monitoring teams; equipment for fire-fighting teams; additional rangers to patrol conflict areas; and support of local villagers who assist our partners in their work.
