Orangutan Caring Week

Orangutan Caring Week is a worldwide event held annually every November. The mission is to raise awareness, inspire action, and amplify the incredible work being done to save and protect orangutans.
It began as Orangutan Awareness Week but it soon became apparent that just being aware of the plight of orangutans was not enough. We need to care…and care enough to be moved to action. We need to express our concern and create positive change through activities and initiatives that go beyond mere talk. Action is needed to save the orangutans and their rainforest homes. If ever there was a time to care, that time is now!
Here are some suggestions from the OCW team for events and activities that you can do during Orangutan Caring Week:
• Educate and inspire by sharing your passion for orangutans with family and friends.
• Share information, photos and posts via social media.
• Hold an awareness event by setting up a table at a fair, farmer’s market or school.
• Deliver a public lecture at a local library.
• Have a bake sale at your school or office as a fundraiser.
• Put a donation jar on your desk at work with all to adopt an orangutan on behalf of your company.
• Encourage local school involvement to adopt an orangutan or have students fundraise.
• Find orangutan related movies and videos on YouTube or streaming services. Host a movie night at your school or home to help educate and spread awareness. Sell popcorn and candy for a bit of fundraising.
• Learn about the Palm Oil crisis and start a letter writing or postcard campaign. Write to companies that use palm oil in your favorite products and encourage them to source sustainable palm oil.
• Offer your time and talents to support those working to protect orangutans and the rainforests!
