Rescued Baby Panji
Orangutan Outreach partner, Conservation Action Network (CAN), carries out orangutan rescue operations in East Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo) in various landscapes. In February, CAN came to the aid of a baby orangutan found alone.
Separated from his mother, this baby was found climbing a mango tree in the yard of a villager. After being notified, teams from CAN and the East Kalimantan BKSDA immediately responded to rescue him. We are thankful the villagers understood the importance of calling for help and they did not attempt to care for the baby by themselves.
When the rescue teams arrived, the baby initially kept his distance. However, when fruit was presented, the baby came closer and reached for it. He appeared very hungry. The baby was identified as male and was estimated to be around 1 year old. He was later named Panji. He is now safe and receiving care at the CAN rehabilitation center.
Orangutan Outreach is proud to fund rescue missions carried out by CAN. We appreciate your support of this important effort.
