BOS Foundation 2024 Highlights

Text by: Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation Communications Team

Throughout 2024, we’ve shared so many stories with you.

At the start of the year, we told you about an orangutan rescued from Tenggarong, now entrusted to the rehabilitation center in Samboja Lestari. We also have the story of orangutan rescue from Tumbang Samba which is now entrusted to the Nyaru Menteng Rehabilitation Center.

As the year went on, our team in the release sites encountered countless wonders in the forest. From the enchanting Bridal Veil Mushroom and the shy Malayan Giant Squirrel, to the expertly camouflaged Sumatra Pit Viper and a pair of Hornbills basking in the golden hues of a sunset—it’s been an extraordinary journey.

But that’s not all! You joined us in witnessing the progress of young orangutans in Forest School. From Mema advancing to the next class, to Greta, the escape artist of the group, you’ve been there to share in their stories.

You also followed the remarkable transformation of Mardianto, who grew his impressive cheek pads over the course of the year. And who could forget the heartwarming and unusual tale of Du, an orangutan who adopted the baby of her close friend, Melata, and is now raising two young orangutans in our care. In addition, we also released 6 orangutans to Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park last November.

The stories of the incredible people working with us at the rehabilitation centers, along with our efforts in empowering local communities, have also colored our updates across social media and our website.

We hope you’ll never tire of following each story and development we share. None of this would be possible without your unwavering support and encouragement. Stay tuned for even more inspiring stories in 2025, and we wish you a joyful end to 2024!
