On April 29, 2017 the BOS Foundation, in cooperation with Central Kalimantan BKSDA, rescued a 5-year-old female orangutan in Tanggirang village, Kapuas Hulu sub-district, Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan.
The rescue took place after receiving information from the Kapuas Hulu Chief of Police. A preliminary physical examination conducted by the BOS medical team determined the then-unnamed orangutan to be an albino. Her hair, eye, and skin color are paler than normal, and she is also sensitive to light. The medical team gave her a full health check and she was seen to be displaying wild behaviors, meaning there would be a good chance she could soon be released back to a natural habitat. That time has now come!
