BORNEO IS BURNING! The Orangutans Need Your Help!

FIRES ARE WREAKING HAVOC ALL ACROSS BORNEO!
AND THE ORANGUTANS DON'T HAVE THE LUXURY OF LEAVING!

Palm oil companies and small land holders are setting fires that are burning out of control. Many of the fires are perilously close to the orangutan rescue centers. BOS Nyaru Menteng and IAR Ketapang are enveloped in smoke and haze, creating hazardous conditions for the orangutans and staff. Thankfully the orangutans are safe at both sites— but the air quality is so bad that Forest School is closed and the babies are being kept indoors.

The IAR team has been rescuing orangutans from burning forests and working frantically to keep the fires away from the center. BOS has had to bring orangutans in from the islands due to extremely dry conditions and severe fire risk! In Sebangau and Mawas, teams from BOS Mawas, the Borneo Nature Foundation and the Tuanan Orangutan Research Project are working 24-7 to put out fires in the peat forests. If the peat fires get out of control they could decimate the wild orangutan population living there... ORANGUTAN LIVES ARE AT STAKE!

Can you help?

We've set up an Emergency Fire Fund to support BOSF, IAR, BNF and TORP. Donations will help pay for staff, equipment, medical supplies and fire-fighting gear. The situation is critical! Thank you for your support! Visit the Fire Fund page to learn more and make a donation.
