BOS Foundation Rescues Albino Orangutan
1 May 2017 — The BOS Foundation, in cooperation with Central Kalimantan BKSDA, has successfully rescued a 5-year-old female orangutan in Tanggirang village, Kapuas Hulu sub-district, Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan.
The rescue took place on April 29, after receiving information from the Kapuas Hulu Chief of Police. The orangutan is now being cared for at the BOS Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Rescue Facility in Central Kalimantan.
A preliminary physical examination conducted by the BOS medical team has determined this is an albino orangutan: her hair, eye, and skin color are paler than normal, and she is also sensitive to light. The medical team will continue to observe her and conduct routine health tests. She was held captive by local residents for two days and still displays wild behaviors, meaning there is a good chance she could soon be released back to a natural habitat.
