MUST SEE VIDEO: Dramatic Orangutan Rescues by IAR

Orangutan Outreach has been partners with International Animal Rescue (IAR) since 2009. The orangutans of West Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo) have a safe haven at IAR's Orangutan Rescue Center in Ketapang. There, they are cared for and rehabilitated by trained professionals until the day comes when they can be released into a safe forest or island sanctuary.

Ideally, wild orangutans remain wild-- living their lives in their forest home. Unfortunately this is becoming nearly impossible as ruthless palm oil companies destroy their pristine rainforest home. When this happens, the IAR rescue team is sometimes notified of orangutans who are trapped in patches of forest that are being destroyed. The IAR team gathers their gear and goes out and gets them. Whenever possible, rather than bring the wild orangutans back to the center, the team takes the orangutans to a safe forest-- one that the palm oil industry will not touch.

This video is of one such operation, filmed in March 2013. Lives have been saved. Others have been lost. It's not easy. Thankfully the IAR rescue team is there to get the job done. Please support their amazing work by making a contribution to Orangutan Outreach for IAR Ketapang.

You can make a difference in the fight to save the orangutans by adopting one of the residents of the IAR Ketapang Orangutan Center for just USD $15/month (or USD $150/year).
