Molika is Living Wild & Free!

We are happy to bring you a brief update on lovely Molika!

Molika spent several years in the Orangutan Outreach adoption program and we are so grateful to everyone who adopted her! She was released back into the wild by SOCP on Nov 3, 2022. (Many of her adoptive parents are now adopting Brenda or Janet! Thanks!)

We are so proud of Molika as she has begun her life free in the forest! Molika was last observed on May 1, 2025 by the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP) Post-Release Monitoring team at the Jantho release site. We hope you love this photo of Molika high up in the trees! Throughout 2025, Molika has been closely monitored on a monthly basis to assure she is adapting to her new forest life.

Molika’s daily proportion of time spent foraging remains consistently high, exceeding the average observed across the reintroduced orangutan population. Despite the low fruit availability in the forest during this period, Molika successfully maintained high levels of fruit consumption and supplemented her diet with other important food sources, including leaves, stems and insects. What a clever girl!

One day soon, we hope to see Molika with a baby in tow! We will keep you posted!

At the end of 2024 the SOCP Quarantine was hit by a devastating landslide. Please help us rebuild the center!
